Every planet plays a pivotal role in a person’s life. However the
planets don’t have a similar effect on all human beings, they give results
according to the houses and signs they are placed in. When a horoscope is
prepared, the planets are positioned as per the time, place and date of birth.
While casting horoscope, two charts are prepared, lagna chart and chalit chart.
The lagna chart informs about the sign in which the planet is positioned
whereas the chalit chart sheds light on the house in which they are placed.
Division of House in Astrology
In astrology a house is found out by dividing the
Zodiac. The circle of zodiac is divided into twelve equal parts known as a
house in astrology. This division gives different houses and the location of planets in them
is decided on the basis of date of birth, place of birth and time of birth of a
person. Date and time of birth gives the respective position of the planets at
that point. The place of birth helps an astrologer to determine the longitude
and latitude of that place so that this point may be fixed in relationship with
the planets.
What is zodiac?
The 12 constellations that mark the path where sun travels
over the course of one year are known as zodiac in astrology. The term ‘sun
travels over a year’ is however a loose one as the sun never travels but it is
an illusion created by the revolution of earth. Each of these 12 constellations
has a boundary assigned, which spans 30-degree.
They also have signs attached to them and they are closely
related to the way Earth moves in the universe. The dates of horoscope
correspond to the position of constellation when sun passes through them.
What is a house in horoscope ?
The house in horoscope, also known
as “bhavas” or “sthanas’ in Sanskrit, are the outer indication of Zodiac signs
that reveal a person’s nature, career path, love life and much more. Each
zodiac sign has a house assigned and the houses are calculated based on the
time of birth.
Different Styles of Houses
In Vedic astrology, the houses are
always identical to the 30-degrees of a sign whereas in the western astrology,
the signs may span over two houses, forming a cusp.
What is difference between North Indian and South Indian horoscope styles?
The Indian Vedic astrology is divided into two main styles, the North Indian horoscope style and the South Indian Horoscope style. The
North Indian horoscope style is a house-based chart whereas the South Indian
horoscope is sign-based. Let us understand the differences between these two
horoscope styles. How to cast a horoscope?
Horoscope is cast looking at celestial energies and patterns of
heavenly bodies such as sun, moon, stars and planets. So a person’s horoscope
chart will be a picture of heaven at the time of his or her birth. This can be
determined from the position of celestial bodies during a person’s birth date,
time and place.
Calculation of
Horoscope Chart: There is immense importance of time of birth in astrology. The time of birth depends on the place of birth as LMT or
Local Mean Time is used while casting horoscope. So if you are born in Mumbai
at 4:11 am IST, the time will be first converted into LMT.
The importance of Place of Birth in Astrology
The three most important determinants while casting a horoscope are
date of birth, exact time of birth and place of birth. Only if these three are
provided accurately, one can determine the position of celestial beings and
longitude and latitude of earth. Let us understand in detail why place of birth
is important in astrology.
Effect of sun: It is quite obvious that the place of birth determines the effect of
sun. For instance, if you were born in India in morning, it would be night in the
US or evening in the UK. Sun is an important celestial object in astrology and
hence it is important to know the place of birth to determine the effect of sun
in that area during the time and day of your birth.
Indian National Calendar
The Indian National Calendar also known as
the Saka Calendar or Hindu calendar is the official civil calendar used in
India. The Saka Calendar is derived from ancient Hindu Lunisolar calendars. It
also has some influence of Persian calendar. King Kanishka started the Saka
calendar in 78AD. It comprises of 12 months, just like the Gregorian calendar,
but its structure is quite different from Gregorian structure. For instance,
the first month, Chaitra, starts from March 21st or 22nd
of Gregorian Calendar and the last month, Falgun, ends in February 20 or 21st.
What is a Gregorian calendar or the western calendar
Gregorian calendar is the most accepted calendar
internationally. It was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII on 24 Feb 1582. This calendar was
started to rectify the anomalies in Julian calendar. The Julian calendar assumed that a year was
based on 362.25 days; however a year was actually 11 minutes shorter than this
duration. As a result there was an error of approximately 3 days in a cycle of
400 years. At the time when Gregorian calendar came into existence this error
in days had already reached 10 days.
What is Vedic Astrology?
As we know, we all are souls
incarnating into human bodies. The events occurring in our lives are a
reflection of karmas performed by us in previous births. The influence of
karmas of past births and planetary positions on us is depicted by astrology.
The term Vedic means derived from Vedas, “The ancient Scriptures” written by
profoundly wise people in India. These scriptures were based on all the aspects
of world which influence the belief system and life style of any person. So,
Vedic astrology is based on spiritual, economic, social and cultural and
technological aspects of one’s life. It is said to be founded by a sage of
ancient times, Maharishi Prasara.
