How to cast a horoscope?

Horoscope is cast looking at celestial energies and patterns of heavenly bodies such as sun, moon, stars and planets. So a person’s horoscope chart will be a picture of heaven at the time of his or her birth. This can be determined from the position of celestial bodies during a person’s birth date, time and place.

Calculation of Horoscope Chart: There is immense importance of time of birth in astrology. The time of birth depends on the place of birth as LMT or Local Mean Time is used while casting horoscope. So if you are born in Mumbai at 4:11 am IST, the time will be first converted into LMT.

The importance of Place of Birth in Astrology

The three most important determinants while casting a horoscope are date of birth, exact time of birth and place of birth. Only if these three are provided accurately, one can determine the position of celestial beings and longitude and latitude of earth. Effect of sun: It is quite obvious that the place of birth determines the effect of sun. For instance, if you were born in India in morning, it would be night in the US or evening in the UK. Sun is an important celestial object in astrology and hence it is important to know the place of birth to determine the effect of sun in that area during the time and day of your birth.

Indian National Calendar

The Indian National Calendar also known as the Saka Calendar or Hindu calendar is the official civil calendar used in India. The Saka Calendar is derived from ancient Hindu Lunisolar calendars. It also has some influence of Persian calendar. King Kanishka started the Saka calendar in 78AD. It comprises of 12 months, just like the Gregorian calendar, but its structure is quite different from Gregorian structure. For instance, the first month, Chaitra, starts from March 21^st or 22^nd of Gregorian Calendar and the last month, Falgun, ends in February 20 or 21^st.

What is a Gregorian calendar or the western calendar

Gregorian calendar is the most accepted calendar internationally.  It was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII on 24 Feb 1582.  This calendar was started to rectify the anomalies in Julian calendar.  The Julian calendar assumed that a year was based on 362.25 days; however a year was actually 11 minutes shorter than this duration. As a result there was an error of approximately 3 days in a cycle of 400 years. At the time when Gregorian calendar came into existence this error in days had already reached 10 days.
